The NGO Resource Centre (NGORC), a project
of the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) aims to implement the
AKF NGO Enhancement strategy.
The Foundation believes that social development is best
achieved with a spirit of self-help. Its projects and
programmes consistently seek to affirm this spirit. The
most crucial ingredient of effective self-help for the
poor and disadvantaged is the capacity for self- organisation.
For effective collective efforts to address common
development concerns, local initiatives need to be
linked to a broader network that can work with government,
media and business to influence policy and provide
technical and organisational support.
Over the past 6 years or so, NGORC has gained recognition
as a key support organisation for the citizen sector
in Pakistan.
NGORC is supported by the European Commission through
the Rural Social Development Programme, by the United
States Agency for International Development through
the Pakistan NGO Initiative, and the Canadian International
Development Agency and the Aga Khan Foundation Canada
through the Pakistan-Canada Social Institutions Development
Programme.
To enhance organisations and systems that promote
gender-sensitive, participatory approaches to sustainable
development.
NGORC’s primary constituency is institutions
that build capacity for citizen self-organisation.
It provides information, training, advice and forums
to exchange learning.
Strategic Objectives
Enhance capacity and promote professionalism across
a critical mass of Pakistan’s citizen sector;
and
Promote an enabling environment for private voluntary
citizen initiatives that contribute to the public
good.
Towards achieving these objectives, NGORC offers
two distinct sets of services: Development Management
and Development Communication
