In the era of globalization, leadership of the world face many challenges,
which can be addressed with a clear vision. The vision should be translated
into an action.
This was stated by Sohail Muhammad Ali, Provincial Coordinator Sindh,
Academy for Educational Development, speaking at Development Forum of NGO
Resource Centre, Karachi on “the challenges of leadership” on July 13, 2006.
He said leadership does not mean political leadership, but it means
leadership in every sphere of life.
Sohail Ali recently attended the 8th Global Leadership Forum at Istanbul
Turkey from June 22 -25, 2006, where experts from all over the world
delivered their papers and speeches on various aspects of leadership.
He said a speaker pointed out that we have global problems, but we have
local leaders whose perspectives are very limited.
Sohail Ali pointed out that participants from Brazil, Bulgaria, Germany,
India, Iran, Iraq, Malaysia, Nigeria, South Africa, Somalia, USA, UK and
Pakistan attended this international gathering. The speakers raised very
interesting points regarding leadership. For example he said a speaker Dr.
Volker Buddrus presented his paper on the spiritual dimension of leadership,
He said leadership is a relative term. It is important to understand the
difference between power and authority. Every individual has power but he
does not have leadership qualities. Leadership comes from personal
qualities, he said.
He said Pakistani NGOs should take part in international events like that to
improve their knowledge and leadership skills.
More than 26 participants attended the Development Forum and some of them
took part in discussion on the topic.
Anis Danish of NGORC conducted the programme and also welcomed the speaker.
