She spoke on “SELF” in Focus: in NGO Environment.”

She said human being started their journey as hunter/gatherer and with the passage of time they evolved and started doing agriculture for eating and trading. Later, came the industrial era in which they started making commodities to improve their life. Now is information age. She said the next era would be era of wisdom.

Farah also explained “Johari Window,” which is one of the most useful models, describing the process of human interaction. Named after the first names of its inventors, Joseph Luft and Harry Ingham, the Johari window has four panes, indicating personal awareness into four different types: open, hidden, blind, and unknown.

She said the more one is open, the more he can easily interact with people and solve his problems.

It is the attitude, which affects people as well as the organizations, she said adding that the person has a choice as to how he behaves in whatever situation.

Farah quoted Victor Frankl, who spent many years in German concentration camps and said “Even when we are not personally responsible for the circumstances in which we find ourselves, we are still responsible for the meaning we give to our lives as we choose our attitudes towards, and our behavior in such situations.”

Farah said quality questions can solve almost all the problems. Ask right questions, which should be value based, motivational and competency questions.

She spoke on habit and said human habits are consistent but often unconscious patterns. Habits are the intersection of knowledge, skill and desire, she added.

The participants took keen interest in the discussion and asked many questions from the guest speakers. They also gave their views on the subject.

Earlier, Incharge of the NGORC Information Centre Anis Danish introduced the Development Forum and the guest speakers.

Development Forum is a regular feature of NGORC in order to provide a platform for creating a dialogue among development sector operators. The Forum is part of the services of Development Communication Programme of NGORC.
