Understanding Organizational Culture

Course Purpose:

When an organization is created it becomes its own world and its culture becomes the foundation on which the organization will exist in the world. Every organization has its own unique culture even through they may not have consciously tried to create it.

Culture frequently echoes the prevailing management style. Interpreting and understanding organizational culture is an important activity for managers because it affects strategic development, productivity and learning at all levels. Cultural assumptions can both enable and constrain what organizations are able to do.

CSRC has developed this 2 day workshop to help Managers working in Civil Society Organizations to understand their organizational culture and how to transform existing organizational culture to support progress and growth.

Who should attend:

This course is aimed at mid to senior level professionals from various sectors who are responsible for managing and developing their organizations.

Civil Society Resource Centre (formerly NGORC):

Civil Society Resource Centre is a project of the Aga Khan Foundation established with the mission to enhance organizations and systems that promote gender sensitive, participatory approaches to sustainable and equitable development.

Realizing the need to improve the impact of training conducted for the citizen sector, Civil Society Resource Centre has embarked on an innovative 'Capacity Development Program’. The courses offered under this new program aim to build competencies of development professionals through an 'Outcome-Based' approach and participatory learning process.

Facilitator's Profile:

Rezwana Khan is an Assistant Manager Capacity Development Program at Civil Society Resource Centre. She has over 20 years of work experience which include eight years of management Consultancy experience in the nonprofit sector. Rezwana has worked both within the country and internationally. Her areas of specialization include Organizational Capacity Assessment, Organizational Development, Strategic Planning and Human Resource Management. She has coordinated various programs which include Development Management Program, Organizational Development, Young development Fellowship Program and Livelihood Up gradation and Youth Development Program.

Learning Outcome:

At the end of the session participants will be able to:

  1. Identify elements that can be used to describe or influence organizational culture
  2. Appreciate the contribution of organizational culture to the management of change
  3. Identify tools and demonstrate skills to assess their organizational culture
  4. Apply relevant strategies to affect organizational culture towards progress and growth

Registration Details:

Fee includes materials and refreshment during the workshop. It does not include the cost of board and lodging. Participants are requested to make their own arrangements for accommodation.

Please note that payment through cheque is not acceptable. On acceptance of nomination (s), participants will receive a confirmation email from CSRC.

Cancellation Policy:

If you are unable to attend the workshop, a substitute delegate will be most welcome in your place.
